MINNEAPOLIS - What San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is doing during the national anthem is not going unnoticed.
Others NFL players have joined Kaepernick's protest. A pro soccer player in Seattle. A volleyball team in West Virginia. And even some Minneapolis North High School football players.
"We just want to make sure all our young men, that we support them on the decisions the make, and we'll have their back through and through," said Michael Walker, head the the Office of Black Male Student Achievement in the Minneapolis Public Schools.
Some players decided to kneel during the national anthem before their game at Brooklyn Center Friday night.
Walker sees it as an opportunity to learn and start a discussion.
"It's a peaceful protest, they were actually, not harming anyone. They decided to do that on their own, so we value that and want to make sure they have the opportunity to do that within our school system," he said.
"Obviously we're not promoting one way or the other but we want to make sure they have the opportunity to share their perspective, and speak their truth, stand up for what they believe in and allow that to happen. As long as it's not infringing on anyone else's rights we're okay with that," Walker added.
