Human remains discovered in Burnet County; investigators don't suspect foul play

Investigators with the Burnet County Sheriff's Office believe the remains could have been there for years.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Burnet County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) is investigating after human remains were discovered in the Briggs community last Saturday.

According to officials with the BCSO, deputies responded to a call from a citizen who claimed to have potentially spotted human remains. The citizen, a deer hunter, was found to have located partial human remains in a wooded area while he was hunting.

BCSO deputies and investigators, assisted by the Texas Ranger Service and the 33rd/424th District Attorney’s Office, were eventually able to locate the skeletal remains. The County said investigators have identified the remains but have yet to reveal it until a positive identification is confirmed.

Investigators ultimately determined that the remains had been in the area for an extended period of time, ranging anywhere from months to years.

The cause of the person's death is unknown, but foul play isn't suspected and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
