CEDAR PARK, Texas — Nearby residents were evacuated Tuesday afternoon as crews battled a structure fire in Cedar Park.

The Cedar Park Fire Department, with assistance from the Austin and Leander fire departments, responded to the fire on Zilker Drive near the Parke Shopping Center.

“We are evacuating nearby neighbors while crews work to get the fire under control and extinguished,” police said in a social media post around 1:40 p.m.

Police confirmed the fire was out and the scene was safe about 40 minutes later.

Cedar Park Fire Chief James Mallinger said firefighters arriving on the scene found a detached garage with heavy smoke and fire. The fire was extinguished, and the garage is a total loss.

The cause was determined to be a cooking fire inside the garage that spread to other flammable materials inside the garage.
