CEDAR PARK, Texas — A student was arrested Friday morning after a threat against Cedar Park Middle School.
Cedar Park police investigated "school shooting rumors" which were being shared on social media, when a new report was discovered.
Police were able to locate the origin of the new incident and arrested the student on campus. According to police, there was no evidence of a credible threat to the school and that Friday morning's incident was a hoax.
The department also said threats are considered severe crimes, whether they are real or turn out to be credible.
The district "will be increasing law enforcement presence on campus" Friday, according to an email sent to Leander ISD parents and guardians from Cedar Park Middle School. The school also said it will add additional monitoring to doors and campus security cameras.
Emotional support is available to students through Cedar Parks' administrative team or school counselors.
"Please rest assured that the safety of your children remains our top priority, and we are treating this situation with the utmost seriousness," Principal Lauren Meeks wrote in the letter. "We appreciate your continued partnership, and we will keep you informed should new information become available."
