Cedar Park police chief announces retirement

This week, Sean Mannix announced he is retiring after seven years with the Cedar Park Police Department.

CEDAR PARK, Texas — Cedar Park Police Chief Sean Mannix is retiring.

According to an announcement Mannix made to the Cedar Park Police Department, he will officially retire on Feb. 28. Mannix said that after 37 years "in the trenches," with seven years at Cedar Park PD, he's ready to "try retired life for size."

Mannix said in the announcement that he has recently been undergoing treatment for an unspecified cancer and that while his prognosis is good and he is expected to make a full recovery in the coming months, that experience has factored into his decision to retire.

"I did not know just how much organizational pride one person could experience until I had the opportunity to work with you all and experience it myself," Mannix told the department. "Please continue to keep this community one of the safest in Texas. Cedar Park is a special place, so take care of the community and City organization. Also, continue to take care of each other and lift each other up."

Mannix said he and his wife, Eileen, intend to purchase an RV and tour the country while keeping their home in Cedar Park. Part of their tour will include California in the summer for the birth of Mannix's first grandchild, which he said is "probably the most exciting thing I've ever anticipated."
