AUSTIN, Texas — Multiple police departments in the Austin area reported having issues with their 911 call lines on Sunday.
Just after noon Sunday, the Cedar Park Police Department posted on X that its 911 lines were dealing with unspecified technical difficulties.
Just before 3:30 p.m., Lakeway police also reported disruptions to the local 911 system and its dispatch lines.
Just before 5 p.m., the Austin Police Department announced it was dealing with "occasional technical difficulties" with its 911 system. Some of the issues APD said it was dealing with included 911 callers and call-takers having difficulty hearing each other, missing automatic location information and some calls being answered by a neighboring jurisdiction. However, the department clarified that there was not an outage to the system and that emergency calls were still coming through.
Austin Mayor Kirk Watson said in a post on X just after 5 p.m. that departments in the Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) region were all experiencing difficulties with the 911 system, and that the City of Austin was working with CAPCOG to fix the issue.
Just before 10 p.m. Sunday, the City of Austin posted on X that the 911 call system was normalizing, but the all-clear had not yet been given.
Throughout the day, police departments from Lago Vista, Taylor and Marble Falls, as well as the Burnet County Sheriff's Office and Llano County Sheriff's Office, also reported having issues.
The Hays County Sheriff's Office also reported having issues early Sunday afternoon, but stated in a Facebook post that all 911 services were restored as of 7 p.m.
