AUSTIN — As Apple on Thursday announced it would be building a new campus in the Austin area, and with it introducing 5,000 new jobs, all eyes are on Austin-area businesses.
KVUE reached out to the Austin Chamber of Commerce to see where local companies currently stand in regards to employment in our area. The chamber responded, giving its recent estimates of Austin's top employers.
Apple stands at No. 11 on that list with 7,000 jobs. With the addition of 5,000 new roles, and plans to employ up to 15,000 in total, that could bring the tech giant up several spots in the rankings.
While tech is certainly huge in the capital city, so is government. Two employers on the chamber's list include the State of Texas and the Federal Government. Their estimates are based on a source of payroll employment data called the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages from the Texas Workforce Commission.
