AUSTIN -- Barton Springs Pool reopened last month after a makeover to the pool grounds, and the city is ready to celebrate.
The Barton Springs Pool Improvement Project Completion Celebration is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The Barton Springs General Grounds Improvement Project included upgrades to several features. In addition to a handicapped accessible ramp, the city's Parks and Recreation Department worked with several community groups to upgrade outdated equipment, resolve erosion issues, improve root conditions of Heritage trees and replacing the gravel parking lot with new pavement.
The project met the requirements of the Save Our Springs Ordinance. It limits the amount of paved areas in the Barton Springs zone, as well as pollutant levels. Leaders also asked for opinions from the people who frequent the park before doing any upgrades.
The city says hundreds of thousands come to swim here every summer, so Barton Springs is a very crucial piece of Austin culture to maintain for future generations.
Wednesday's celebration will take place at the Barton Springs Pool South Gate Parking Area on Robert E. Lee Road.
