NEW YORK — Another year with an increase in voting for Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds for the Hall of Fame, but once again, both come up short.
Mariano Rivera, Roy Halladay, Edgar Martinez and Mike Mussina got the votes needed. You need 75 percent of the voters to get into the Hall of Fame.
Clemens, who won 354 games, two World Series titles, and seven Cy Young awards in a 24-year career with four teams (Red Sox, Blue Jays, Yankees, Astros), has been on the ballot seven times:
- 2013 - 37.6 percent
- 2014 - 35.4 percent
- 2015 - 37.5 percent
- 2016 - 45.2 percent
- 2017 - 54.1 percent
- 2018 - 57.3 percent
- 2019 - 59.5 percent
Bonds, a seven-time MVP who hit a record 762 home runs, has also been on the ballot seven times:
- 2013 - 36.2 percent
- 2014 - 34.7 percent
- 2015 - 36.8 percent
- 2016 - 44.3 percent
- 2017 - 53.8 percent
- 2018 - 56.4 percent
- 2019 - 59.1 percent
Clemens and Bonds have three more years to be on the ballot for the Baseball Writers. After that, their Hall of Fame fates will rely on the Veterans' Committee.
