AUSTIN, Texas — Concordia University is getting recognized for its commitment to student diversity. It's now officially a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).
The U.S. Department of Education assigns the designation to schools that show dedication to serving Latino students.
State leaders visited the school Wednesday to celebrate.
"The fact is you have planted a flag saying we're here for you. We are ready for the future of this country," said Sen. Jose Menendez.
Fewer than 500 higher education institutions have that HSI designation.
