SAN MARCOS, Texas — One person is dead and four others were injured after a hit-and-run crash Sunday in San Marcos.

According to the San Marcos Police Department, a two-vehicle crash happened at approximately 5:40 a.m. on Interstate 35 northbound towards Exit 208.

A driver and four passengers were reportedly heading to Irving, Texas, from Mexico in a black SUV, when they were hit by a white Toyota minivan.

Police say the SUV crashed into the exit sign before rolling over, and the driver was ejected from her seat. She later died at Ascension Seton Hays hospital in Kyle. The remaining four passengers received non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to survive.

During the incident, an off-duty trooper reportedly watched the driver of the minivan flee the scene before crashing into a dumpster and running away to an apartment near FM 110.

Now, the San Marcos Police Department is seeking warrants for an arrest after identifying the suspect.
