Austin Parks staff to test out 2-hour parking signs at Deep Eddy Pool

Initially, the department had considered parking meters.

AUSTIN, Texas — Editor's note: The attached video is from KVUE's original coverage of this story in September 2019.

The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department will soon begin using two-hour parking signs to deter long-term parking at Deep Eddy Pool.

The signs are part of a pilot program by the department to help solve the parking challenges the pool's patrons and trail users face.

Because of a lack of free parking around the pool, people visiting the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail and nearby businesses park at the pool.

In September 2019, the department considered installing parking meters, which were supposed to be activated by March. But after gathering feedback, the department instead moved forward with the parking signs pilot, according to a city memo published on Feb. 7.

The pilot will run from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Staff will continue to monitor the lot and inform visitors about the signs.

Once the pilot program is over, parks staff will meet to discuss its effectiveness. That information could determine whether there is a need for parking meters at Deep Eddy Pool in the future.
