AUSTIN, Texas — A man's body has been found in Lake Travis after a days-long search.
The Travis County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) said just after 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, its Lake Patrol deputies and other public safety agencies responded to a 911 report from a group that had been boating near Devil's Cove. The group said a man in his 20s hadn't been seen in 15 to 20 minutes.
Witnesses told authorities that the man was not wearing a life jacket and had been holding onto a floatation device near their pontoon boat as they were anchored alongside other boats.
TCSO Lake Patrol, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Lake Travis Fire and Rescue and STAR Flight searched the area. Later that evening, the mission transitioned into a recovery operation. TCSO Lake Patrol took over as the lead investigating agency and continued to search for the missing swimmer until nightfall.
Lake Patrol deputies returned at sunrise on Sunday, June 9, to search the shoreline and lake and to use sonar and remotely operated underwater cameras. The search continued on Monday, June 10. Texas Parks and Wildlife continued to assist TCSO.
On Tuesday, June 11, at 1:51 p.m., the man's body was found and recovered in 54 feet of water.
TCSO said out of respect for the man's family and because this is not a criminal incident, it will not be releasing the swimmer's name.
