The driver involved in a crash that killed a 64-year-old woman in Bastrop County Saturday evening was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter, according to the Department of Public Safety.
DPS dispatch identified the accused driver as Taylor Tate.
On April 22, DPS Staff Sergeant Robbie Barrera said she was notified about the crash around 6:36 p.m.
Dispatch said Tate's vehicle, a Ford Mustang, was traveling westbound on Highway 21 east of Southshore Rd at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a Chevy Equinox, driven by William Eugene Koegler, was about to turn onto Highway 21 westbound.
After the Equinox turned right onto Highway 21, deputies allege Tate's car hit the Equinox from behind, forcing both vehicles to skid 100 feet.
Koegler suffered serious injuries in the collision while his passenger Alicia Moss Koegler, 64, died.
Tate has a lengthy criminal history with various traffic violations, burglary and drug charges on his record which began in 2005, according to Bastrop County public records.
