Police make arrest in East Austin homicide

APD said the homicide happened in the 4700 block of Bandera Road.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department has made an arrest in an East Austin homicide.

Just after 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, 911 received calls reporting that multiple gunshots were heard in the area of Bandera Road, near East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Springdale Road. People who called also reported hearing people yelling before the shots were fired, as well as a woman screaming.

When officers arrived, they found a man who was wounded in the middle of the road. Medics tried to save the man, but he died just moments later at the scene from the gunshot wounds. That man was identified as Jerrell Davidson.

Based on interviews with people on the scene, detectives were able to issue a first-degree murder warrant for Ronald Charles, 23. On Sept. 23, he turned himself into the Travis County Jail. His bond is set at $300,000.
