Eight people displaced in West Austin fire

The blaze started on a first-floor balcony and spread to another balcony on the second floor.

AUSTIN, Texas — Eight people have been displaced from two apartments after a fire in West Austin.

Austin Fire Department was called to the fire at the 7600 block of Woodhollow Drive around 7:24 a.m. on Sunday.

The blaze started on a first-floor balcony and spread to another balcony on the second floor.

Fire officials said the fire was accidental and was caused by improperly discarded smoking material. The building was evacuated.

The fire was quickly put out, but two apartments were subject to fire control and smoke damage.

Red Cross of Central Texas is responding to help the displaced residents.

No one was injured in the fire.
