EXTREME HOME MAKEOVER
KELLER - The ABC television show Extreme Home Makeover is in North Texas to build a home for a Keller family.
The Augustin family has been through some tough times in the last couple of years. A child was born premature, which led to costly medical bills. Then, their home was destroyed in a flood. But that didn't stop the family from helping others.
The flood destroyed the Augustin home on Father's Day in 2007.
"You hear the expression all the time 'it's not what you go through, it's how you go through it,'" said Pastor Bill Ramsey, with The Met Church. "That's something they've certainly lived out."
All the pictures Amber Augustin took for her volunteer photography business were destroyed. The pictures captured the moments parents shared with their premature babies, some of whom were too young to survive.
The Met Church told their story to Extreme Home Makeover; and on Tuesday the Augustins jetted off to Hawaii while volunteers tear down their house to build a new one.
"They were crazy," Ramsey said of the family's reaction. "They were just ecstatic. And of course, our whole church was just excited for them because we've been openly praying and writing the letters. And to find that they were selected, it was just crazy."
Ramsey said it is something the Augustin's deserve after staying strong in tough times.
"You can get through it," he said. "It can make you stronger. T hey certainly live that out."
The demolition and construction starts on the home Wednesday. As usual, the crew has a week to do everything. Meanwhile, they're still looking for a company to provide furniture.
