Family heirloom found 500 miles away in Pflugerville thrift store

500 mile mystery: How did family heirloom get to a Pflugerville thrift store
"The Lady in Red"

PFLUGERVILLE -- Ami Pike remembers all the nooks and crannies of her grandma's china cabinet in Jackson, Mississippi. It sits in her new house now. She moved here three weeks ago, and is in the process of decorating with her daughter.

"I told her let's just run by Goodwill," Pike said. "I want to go see what they have and I want to get some colorful dishes to put in my china cabinet that my grandmother left me."

Her daughter, a little hesitant to hit up the thrift shop, caved and they browsed the aisles for hidden treasure.

"I told my daughter, 'Look at this!' I said, 'This has my real father's name on it! My real father's name!' and she goes, 'Oh my god Mom, we hit the lotto!'"

"The Lady in Red" -- a long-lost family treasure Pike's father gave her for her second birthday.

It hung above her childhood bed in Jackson, Mississippi. Pike moved to Texas at age 4 and picture stayed 500 miles behind with her grandmother in Mississippi. In 2007, Grandma died.

Pike put all her belongings in storage, including, or so she thought, "The Lady in Red."

"I don't know when it got packed up to what happened, if it got donated, I don't know where it ended up in between that time period," Pike said.

She bought this priceless painting back Sunday for $4.99 at the Goodwill on FM 685 in Pflugerville.

"I wish I could have had a picture of what I looked like at that time, because I instantly started just shaking," she said.

So a family treasure is back home, but questions linger about how it ended up leaving Mississippi on a journey that would end in a Pflugerville Goodwill store.

Here's where we need your to solve the mystery.
