AUSTIN -- A former Austin elementary school teacher has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after he admitted to sexually abusing three students in two years, according to KVUE's partners at the Austin American-Statesman. The teacher agreed to a plea deal and was sentenced by a judge on Aug. 4.
Alfredo Andrade-Gaytan, 34, first faced charges last year when a 6-year-old student at Reilly Elementary School in North Austin said her teacher molested her when her classmates were at recess.
He was questioned by Austin Independent School District police and originally denied the assault, but he gave a DNA sample. The next day he went back to the department and confessed, telling officers he told the child he wanted to play a game when the other students went to recess, and that's when he assaulted the girl.
He was arrested again in Brenham a week later for two previous incidents at Walnut Creek Elementary, also in North Austin, where he had worked as a third-grade bilingual teacher, according to police. According to court documents, Andrade-Gaytan inappropriately touched a 9-year-girl and an 8-year-old girl at Walnut Creek Elementary. Andrade-Gaytan was teaching summer school at Reilly, but he normally works at Walnut Creek Elementary.
Andrade-Gaytan pleaded guilty to indecency with a child by exposure, indecency with a child by contact and continuous sexual abuse of a young child, according to records filed this month in Travis County court, according to the Statesman. District Judge Brenda Kennedy sentenced him Aug. 4 to 10 years, 20 years and 25 years on each of the charges, respectively.
He is to serve his punishment concurrently, according to a district court employee.
Andrade-Gayton taught at five AISD campuses, including McBee, Read, Linder, Walnut Creek and Reilly elementary schools.
