According to our partners at the Austin American-Statesman, a complaint filed in January claims former Mayor Charles Edwards made false statements when he told the state wildlife department the city had a severe public safety problem with whitetail deer overpopulation.

The document states there was not a professional deer census done to verify that.

The department relied on those statements to allow the city to trap deer and donate the meat to charity.

In August, Lakeway City Council suspended the practice fore one year to gather more information.
