AUSTIN, Texas — Four students committed to attend Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) in the state's first-ever CTE signing ceremony.
The ceremony, hosted by Texas Workforce Commission, gave Jaalah Baaheth, Seth Carl, Savanna Mitchell and Nicolas Walker $2,000 to study advanced engine technology, crime scene technician skills, business and biology.
According to LIT's tuition estimates, the scholarship will cover tuition for a semester up to 16 credit hours or tuition and fees up to 11 credit hours.
The ceremony followed a CTE Resolution Hearing on the Texas House Floor.
"The resolution also marked Texas CTE Signing Day as an annual event that supports the goals of the Governor’s Tri-Agency initiative by highlighting career and technical education programs as a way to address the skills gap as it relates to in-demand middle skill jobs, and encourage this educational pathway to our Texas students," stated The Texas Workforce Commission in a press release to KVUE News.
