AUSTIN — Austin ISD voted Monday to rename Fulmore Middle School due to the name's ties to the Confederacy.
Fulmore will now be named after Sarah Lively, who taught at the school for 25 years.
Fulmore will be the third school to be renamed in the district.
The campus was named after Zachary Taylor Fulmore. He was a Travis County Judge and trustee for the Texas School for the Blind, but he was also a member of the Confederate Army.
In February, board members agreed to rename all facilities named after Confederate leaders or members. There are still several other schools that have not yet been renamed.
The board plans to have the new names in place by next year.
