GEORGETOWN, Texas — Georgetown's school district may team up with the YMCA to build a big new swimming facility.
The board of trustees with Georgetown Independent School District looked at a proposal Monday.
If the partnership comes to fruition and Proposition B passes in the November election, the district would fund the $15.5 million swim facility solely and the YMCA would add other amenities.
According to a spokesperson from GISD, the district would own the pool and the land where it sits. The YMCA would build wrap-around facilities for typical amenities including a weight room, gym, locker rooms and community areas. The YMCA would then manage the operations of the overall facility, and GISD would have first right of refusal on the use of the pool for district activities. The pool would be open to members of the YMCA at other times. The YMCA could also contract with other community organizations to rent the swim facility when the district is not using it.
Voters will weigh in on the plan in the district's November bond election.
Editors Note: A previous version of this story inaccurately stated the YMCA would help pay for the swimming facility itself when it would actually help pay for the amenities.
