Georgetown lit with holiday cheer during tree lighting ceremony Friday night

The square in Georgetown got a little brighter on Friday night for a great celebration the public can attend after Black Friday shopping.

GEORGETOWN, Texas — The square in Georgetown lit up Friday night as they had their Annual Lighting of the Square event.

The event began at 5:30 p.m. and those who were there got to participate and sing along with the Austin Carolers to some favorite holiday tunes.

The Zilker holiday tree lighting will be held Nov. 25

Santa flipped on the lights on what is considered the most beautiful town square in Texas. The sight was even a thrill for people who just moved there from as far away as Houston.

"I've always wanted to live in a small town, and this was perfect," said Dawn Embrie, who just moved to Georgetown from Houston. "That was something that we were told, and we wanted to be here by this. It was just beautiful."

The event was free and downtown shops stayed open late for it.

If you did not get a chance to see the lights, they will stay on until New Year's Day.
