AUSTIN — The Girl Scouts of Central Texas officially kicked off their 2018 season on Saturday.

They did so with an all day party at their North Austin headquarters that included activities geared toward STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning.

Seventeen-year-old Harley Ekrut is a Gold Girl, tjhe equivalent of an Eagle Scout.

"Girl Scouts is an amazing program, not only is a sisterhood, you learn how to communicate with others, you learn how to teach other people of all age groups," said Ekrut.

Ekrut got her Gold Girl status after completing a project that raised awareness about Monarch Butterflies and how they are near extinction.
