AUSTIN -- On Monday, Google Fiber expanded its gigabit Internet service to residents and business in Southeast Austin with the opening of new "fiberhoods."
Google Fiber is a Gigabit Internet service that offers Internet connection speeds for homes and businesses up to 100 times faster than today's average connection speed, as well as TV service with hundreds of high-definition channels.
The new fiberhoods are located in East Riverside Drive, East Oltorf Street, Montopolis Drive and Dove Springs neighborhoods. Go here for a map of the fiberhoods in Austin.
Along with the expansion, those who sign up for Google Fiber's gigabit services will be able to purchase a Nest Learning Thermostat that remembers what temperatures people like, creates a custom schedule for the home and turns itself down when the house is empty. Google Fiber offers a price of $200 for the device.
The following is a list of signup deadlines for the new fiberhoods:
- East Riverside Drive: Oct. 8
- East Oltorf Street: Nov. 19
- Montopolis Drive: Jan. 14, 2016
- Dove Springs: Feb. 25, 2016.
Residents and businesses living in Onion Creek areas still have a chance to signup for service before the upcoming deadline this Thursday, July 16. Eventually all areas within the Austin city limits will have the option to sign up for Google Fiber.
