AUSTIN — Governor Greg Abbott has proclaimed December 5 as an official Day of Mourning in Texas in honor of former President George H.W. Bush.

The people of Texas are encouraged to gather, assemble and pay their respects to the memory of President Bush through ceremonies in homes, businesses, schools, places of worship, public buildings and "other appropriate places for public expression of grief and remembrance," according to Gov. Abbott.

State agencies, offices and departments will be closed on Dec. 5 to allow state employees to attend observances. General government operations and services will be maintained by skeletal work crews.
