After the Texas Legislature legalized hemp last year, the State of Texas has moved one step closer to finally allowing farmers to plant their seeds.
On Monday, Texas Department of Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller the USDA approved the Texas Hemp Plan.
"This is a victory for Texas farmers," said Miller. "With USDA approval of our Texas Hemp Plan, we are one step closer to giving our ag producers access to this exciting new crop opportunity."
However, he said it's still not legal to grow hemp just yet.

"We’ve got to get our rules approved and get our licensing program up and running, but the dominoes are dropping pretty quick," said Miller. "We’re almost there."
He thanked Secretary Sonny Perdue and his staff at the USDA for its quick approval.
