AUSTIN -- Happy (early) birthday, Austin!

Outgoing Mayor Lee Leffingwell and the marketing firm GSD&M gave Austin an early birthday present in the form of a logo. Austin will turn 175 years old on Saturday, Dec. 27. Our city doesn't look a day over 25.

"Austin is nearing its septaquintaquinquecentennial – or 175th anniversary – and we are proud to commemorate its past and look toward its future," said Leffingwell. "GSD&M has created a unique logo to help celebrate and raise awareness of this significant milestone."

The logo shows an outline of Texas that incorporates "Austin" along the northern border. It also shows a banner with "175" on it, and the date of Austin's establishment -- 1839.

The new logo will be given as a gift to the Austin Parks Foundation. The local nonprofit will use the design on T-shirts. All the proceeds from the sales will help fund its mission. APF develops and maintains parks, trials and open spaces in Travis County.

If you're thinking of attending Austin's birthday party, well you missed out. The City of Austin held a birthday party on Dec. 9.

Are you bummed you missed the party? You can host your own party, or you can buy a T-shirt with the special logo. The Austin History Center is also celebrating Austin's birthday with a special exhibit. 'Austin 175: Cabins to Skyscrapers' will be on display until March 22, 2015.
