WIMBERLEY, Texas — The Hays County Sheriff's Office has located a woman in North Austin who was reported missing Wednesday after walking away from her home in Wimberley and not returning.

Now, authorities are crediting social media for helping to find the woman, who is seven months pregnant.

Officials said a good Samaritan saw her walking and stopped to see if she needed assistance. This person provided her a ride, food and shelter for the evening. A co-worker for that person said they saw a post about her disappearance on the Hays County Facebook page and asked the good Samaritan if she could possibly be the same person.

Officials said Evelyn Avendano-Acosta, 23, had last been seen on the 500 block of Wayside Drive in Wimberley around 5 p.m. She did not take her purse, phone or identification with her, officials said.

Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler thanks the multiple law enforcement agencies, CERT, TEXSAR, and the Office of Emergency Management, and all those involved in locating her. Sheriff Cutler also recognized the good Samaritan who cared for and made sure Evelyn was OK.
