Missing Kyle man found dead in Blanco River

The man had been missing in Hays County after he drove away in his vehicle on Dec. 28. He was found dead in the Blanco River on Jan. 12.

HAYS COUNTY, Texas — The body of a missing 32-year-old Kyle man has been found in the Blanco River.

According to the City of San Marcos, Omar Maya-Rangel -- who had been missing since Dec. 28 -- was found in the afternoon of Jan. 12 in the 1800 block of River Road. Authorities were called there after a hiker reported a body in the river.

Officials said an autopsy will be conducted next week by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office. The investigation into his death is ongoing.

Rangel reportedly left his home in Kyle, Texas in a green Ford Expedition and had not been seen since.

Rangel's vehicle was located in Caldwell County Dec. 31 near the Blind Salamander RV Park with his personal belongings inside.

Rangel's family stated to authorities he had been recently experiencing mental health episodes.
