SAN MARCOS, Texas – Blanco Vista Elementary School's principal resigned Thursday, less than two weeks after parents and teachers filed a petition with the Hays CISD board meeting demanding her dismissal.
Hays CISD spokesman Tim Savoy confirmed to KVUE that Principal Rebecca Shea submitted her resignation Thursday, effective at the end of her contract period.
In her letter addressed to Hays CISD Superintendent Michael McKie, Shea said she had been considering moving back to her home state for some time and that her decision was unrelated to the recent petition filed by parents and teachers.
Parents signed the petition concerned that Shea was chipping away at Blanco Vista's dual language program and hurting teacher morale.
