HAYS COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating after a man died last week after officials say he was struck by a vehicle in Hays County.
According to DPS, an argument broke out on Nov. 29 between two drivers outside their vehicles on U.S. 290 and Nutty Brown Road.
Law enforcement said one of the drivers, 45-year-old John Paul Ramirez, fell into the eastbound lane and was hit by an oncoming vehicle. He later died at an Austin hospital.
The other driver involved in the argument, Charles Rice, was arrested by the Hays County Sheriff's Office and has been charged with manslaughter, a second-degree felony, in connection with Ramirez's death. He has since been released on a $25,000 bond.
Following the crash, the eastbound lanes of the roadway were temporary closed and drivers were told to find alternate routes.
