WIMBERLEY, Texas — Editor's note: The above video was published in August 2023, when Jacob's Well was at zero flow.
Flow has been restored to a popular Central Texas swimming hole – at least temporarily.
Hays County Parks said Thursday that recent rainfall has temporarily restored flow to Jacob's Well. But the department said it's too soon to know how things will look by summer.
"We like to stay optimistic here at the Hays County Parks Department, however, we cannot say for certain yet whether we will see the full return of 'normal' flows at Jacob's Well this summer," the department said in a Facebook post.
KVUE reported last August that Jacob's Well had dropped down to zero flow for only the sixth time in its history. No swimming has been allowed at Jacob's Well since August 2022, due to low water levels.
Hays County Parks said it will continue to post updates about the area's conditions online.
Jacob's Well isn't the only local swimming hole that has had to prohibit swimming due to drought-related problems. Last August, Blue Hole Regional Park also closed its swimming area because of low water levels. And Hamilton Pool Preserve briefly closed last summer before reopening in July; however, it is currently not allowing visitors due to the recent rain and the threat of high bacteria levels.
