KYLE, Texas — The Kyle Parks and Recreation Department is asking residents to look out for feral hogs as officials notice an increased presence within city-owned property.
City staff say they are currently working within an existing feral hog trapping contract “to determine the most strategic removal strategy.” The city is also looking at how to mitigate the impact of the feral hogs on public land and the local ecosystem.
In the meantime, residents are reminded to exercise caution when encountering feral hogs.
Feral hogs can be aggressive if they feel threatened or nursing mothers are protecting their young. Keep a safe distance and avoid approaching or feeding them.
If you encounter a feral hog, remain calm and back away slowly. Do not attempt to chase, corner or provoke the animal.
Feral hogs are attracted to food sources, so it’s important to secure trash, pet food and other potential attractants to discourage them from settling in residential areas.
Anyone who spots feral hogs within city limits is asked to report the sighting to the Kyle Parks Department at conservation@cityofkyle.com.
