After posting inappropriate photos on social media of a fatal crash involving teens in Driftwood, a probationary firefighter has been fired from North Hays County Fire Rescue, the department confirmed Friday.

Just after 12 a.m. Wednesday, a 17-year-old lost control of his vehicle on a curve and hit a tree. The driver's brother, 16-year-old Devin Dienst, died in the crash. The driver and two other teens were seriously injured.

"I saw the car accident with comments such as, 'The tree won this round, RIP,' I saw the video of my cousin's dead body with teh caption, 'Don't end up dead like this guy," said Krista Hatton, cousin of the victims.

After investigators discovered the photos on social media, the firefighter was fired Friday morning.

The fire department, which said the firefighter's "wrongful actions" were not representative of their core values, released a statement. It read in part:

On behalf of its commissioners, paid staff, and volunteer personnel, the District expresses its most sincere and deepest sympathy and condolences to the relatives and friends whose family members were affected by the accident and this incident. The District also wants to convey its sincerest apologies for the intentional and wrongful actions of this terminated individual, and reiterate this type of behavior is not and will not be tolerated or condoned by the District.
