House fire sparks brush fire north of San Marcos

An evacuation order was issued to residents in the immediate area.

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Some Hays County residents were evacuated on Saturday after a house fire sparked a brush fire north of San Marcos.

The Hays County Office of Emergency Management (HCOEM) said the Hays County Wildland Task Force responded to a house fire on East Owl Hollow Road that also burned about 6 acres.

An evacuation order was issued to residents in the immediate area, but it has since been lifted.

According to county officials, the situation is under control and forward progress of the fire was stopped.

At around 1:30 p.m., fire crews were conducting overhaul and mop-up of the remaining burning area.

The house was a complete loss, the HCOEM said.

The fire on Saturday was just south of where the Oak Grove fire ignited a week ago. That fire burned 365 acres and is now 100% contained. On Monday, KVUE spoke with homeowners who lost their house of 45 years in the fire.

Hays County officials say they were able to improve communication to residents during that incident, but a big concern for residents now is evacuation routes for people who live in areas with just one way out.
