SAN MARCOS, Texas --- A pedestrian on the railroad tracks near Wonder World Drive in San Marcos died after being hit by a train around 3:30 p.m. Friday, according to the City of San Marcos.
Police have not confirmed why 50-year-old Richard Alonzo Natal was on the tracks. Police say Natal was lying on the northbound tracks and saw the train coming but was unable to get up before the train hit him.
The collision forced the train to stop, blocking Wonder Word Drive under the overpass crossing the Union Pacific railroad tracks. The overpass itself remained open to vehicle traffic. The intersection was closed for about two hours.
Union Pacific Railroad Police will continue to investigate the crash.
