Austin police chief Brian Manley shared a heartbreaking story on Instagram on Monday.
He uploaded a photo of his police badge with a mourning band around it, with the words, "Nemo me impune lacessit" which is Latin for, "No one provokes me with impunity."

Manley wrote he had just removed his mourning band from his badge that he wore in honor of DPS Trooper Damon Allen, whose funeral was on Friday. He then said on the same day he placed the mourning band on his badge again, this time to honor San Marcos' fallen police officer Kenneth Copeland.
"Heartbroken," is how he described how he felt.
Trooper Allen was shot and killed during a traffic stop on Thanksgiving Day near Freestone County. Officer Copeland was killed after an ambush-style shooting Monday while serving a warrant in San Marcos.
