AUSTIN, Texas — Austin hit 102 degrees Wednesday, which ties for the hottest day of the summer so far this year, and hit 101 on Thursday afternoon. "Feels like" temperatures could climb as high as 110 on Friday, and a Weather Impact Alert Day remains in effect. We recommend avoiding prolonged outdoor exposure during peak heating hours if possible.

A high temperature of 100 degrees is in the forecast for Friday in Austin. Just about all of the KVUE area will hover around the lower triple digits as a chance for storms rolls in around the late afternoon and evening.

A Heat Advisory has been extended until 8 p.m. Friday as it will continue with high temperatures once again reaching approximately 100-104 degrees. The one wrinkle in Friday's forecast is that there will be a weak "backdoor cold front" rotating around the heat dome.

This front is not going to have a big influence on temperatures, but there is a low chance it could generate a few showers and thunderstorms Friday afternoon. None of these are expected to be severe, but if you do have any outdoor plans, you may want to keep an eye on the sky later in the afternoon.

As of now, the rain chance is only 30% Friday, but if we can get a few showers to pop up, it could provide us with a little heat relief. A few strong storms containing gusts around 50 mph could be possible within some storms.

The heat levels come down slightly over the weekend into the first half of next week, but we're still looking at a mainly dry weather pattern with high temperatures in the lower triple digits.

The KVUE Weather Team will continue to closely monitor this developing forecast.
