HAYS COUNTY, Texas — In Hays County, a mariachi group is letting their culture shine during Hispanic Heritage Month.
Mariachi Clasico started in 2019. They bring a mix of Hispanic culture.
Carlos Meda, who started the group, is Guatemalan and the other group members have Mexican heritage.
"Our form of expressing our culture is through the music, through the talent we have been able to learn through," Meda said. "Whether you understand Spanish or not, you should be able to tell the feeling of the song. We truly believe in traditional style of mariachi."
It's a father-daughter duo with Meda and his daughter, Jessica Ramos, as well as four of their good friends. For Meda, it is so special to play with his daughter.
“It is amazing honestly,” he told KVUE.
Ramos said she's having a blast performing with her dad and the group.
"It's really fun to play with him. Not a lot of people get work with their family. We all get along so well. We are also joking around, having a good time," Ramos said.
Melissa Hernandez and her husband bring Mexican flair to the group.
"It's a colorful and vibrant culture," Hernandez said.
"Mariachi music is a different style of playing that's more energic, more emotional. You get people that are dancing," Eric Pena said.
During Hispanic Heritage Month, the group is sending a timeless message.
"Always be open to sharing your culture with everybody around you," Ramos said. "Be proud of it."
