Honor Flight Austin to send 2,000th veteran to DC

Honor Flight Austin will take eight World War II veterans to Washington, D.C. on Thursday, marking 2,000 veterans the nonprofit has transported.

Honor Flight Austin will take eight World War II veterans to Washington, D.C. on Thursday, marking 2,000 veterans the nonprofit has transported.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport said in a release that Thursday’s honor flight is the fifth of 2016 and 35th overall for the program. The honor flight is scheduled to leave ABIA at 12:45 p.m. Thursday and arrive at Reagan National Airport in Washington at 4:55 p.m. The veterans are scheduled to return Sept. 2 at 8:05 p.m. ABIA added this flight is being operated and sponsored by Southwest Airlines.

Honor Flight Austin serves veterans residing in 14 Central Texas Counties, and was created to honor veterans by transporting them to visit and reflect at their war memorials. Go here to learn more.
