AUSTIN, Texas — A man and his dog escaped a house fire in southeast Austin early Thursday morning.
At around 2:25 a.m., firefighters with the Austin Fire Department (AFD) responded to multiple calls about a house fire on Bucks Run, just south of William Cannon Road.
When firefighters arrived at the house, they saw flames coming through the roof, walls, windows and doors.
An AFD shift commander told KVUE the man living at the house got himself and his dog out and into the backyard, but they became trapped as the flames spread into both the back and front yards.
Firefighters carried the man to safety because he didn't have any shoes on.
The man's home is a total loss. The damage estimate is unknown at this time.
AFD said the flames also reached a neighbor's house. Firefighters were able to evacuate that home until the fire was knocked out and those neighbors were allowed to return home.
The man rescued by firefighters was taken to a hospital to be evaluated, but he is expected to be OK.
Fire investigators are working to figure out what sparked the fire.
No additional information is available at this time.
