RODANTHE, N.C. — Another house has collapsed on North Carolina's Outer Banks, according to the Chicamacomico Banks Fire and Rescue Department.
Officials said in a post that the house, located on America Drive and GA Kohler Court, fell at 1:05 p.m. on Tuesday. This is the third stilt house in Rodanthe to collapse this month.
The fire and rescue department's Facebook page said the biggest downside to the homes collapsing, aside from devastation to families, is the pollution that will plague the ocean from the building's debris.
Swimmers are warned to stay out of the water near the house as dangerous debris could still be present.
The first house that collapsed at the Outer Banks was located at 23001 G A Kohler Court in Rodanthe, North Carolina. Multiple stilt houses have collapsed this year.
"This is a sad reality that we are facing here in the tri-villages," wrote the department in a post. "Not only does this cause horrible pollution to the ecosystem, but it cuts off all of our emergency vehicle access on the beach."
