WASHINGTON – The controversial special operations exercise "Jade Helm 15" is scheduled to begin next week, but embedded reporters will not be permitted, according to the Washington Post.
The exercise, which sparked a series of conspiracy theories about a government takeover of Texas, is scheduled for July 15 through Sept. 15.
Homeowners in Bastrop County, where part of the exercise will take place, have voiced their opposition to the exercise, including at a community meeting in late April.
In response to the concerns by residents, Gov. Greg Abbott directed the Texas State Guard to monitor the exercises.
A poll conducted by the Texas Tribune and the University of Texas showed many Texans believe the federal government is a danger.
