AUSTIN, Ind. — Hours before President Joe Biden's motorcade made its way to the LBJ Presidential Library to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, supporters lined up outside the building to watch.
"He's done so much for our country for the past 50 years, and I just really respect him," supporter Nora Estlund said. "My late mom loved him, and I love him too."
Longtime supporters said they were excited to be a part of history. Monday was the first time the president had a major appearance since dropping out of the presidential race.
"I drove up from Galveston to watch this because I love Joe," supporter Maryanne Welford said. " I think we're all indebted to him for the good that he's done."
Around 3:30 p.m., President Biden's motorcade – which included the Secret Service, Austin police, Round Rock police and Texas state troopers – arrived at the LBJ Library.
"Just to be able to see him pass by is just awesome," supporter James Savage said. "It feels kind of cool to just, you know, be aware of what's going on and to be in the midst of a lot of history in our country right now."
A couple of supporters of former President Donald Trump were also in attendance, saying it was cool to be in the midst of history, regardless of political views.
Around 5:40 p.m., President Biden made his way back to the Austin airport to fly to Houston to pay respects to the late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.
