Kendra Scott says "Listen, be kind and give back" to UT students during commencement

The jewelry designer and philanthropist centered her speech around giving advice to the graduating business students during their commencement ceremony.

AUSTIN — Successful Austin-based jeweler Kendra Scott had some words of wisdom for graduating business students at University of Texas' McCombs School of Business commencement ceremony Friday morning.

The jewelry designer and philanthropist -- whose business headquarters are here in Austin -- centered her speech around this advice: "Listen, be kind and give back."

"Listen to those around you. It's the foundation of kindness and of generosity," Scott said. "It will make you a better leader, a better colleague, a better spouse, a better friend and better at your chosen profession."

Scott went on to tell the business students, "Find your core values and the things that drive you that are more than money. The things that make you giddy everyday."

The graduates also received yellow tulips as a surprise when they exited the Frank Erwin Center. The Austin High School Marching Band was also wearing Kendra Scott yellow from head-to-toe as they marched down Rainey Street to play for the graduates and their families.
