KINGSLAND, Texas — A washed-out bridge along Ranch Road 2900 near Kingsland, Texas, will be a continuous spot for trouble.
The Texas Department of Transportation announced the bridge will be closed indefinitely. It’s a connector to Kingsland for people living in Sunset Beach.
“We didn’t know how fast it could rise,” said Linda McElroy.
McElroy moved to the area a few weeks ago. She’s still waiting for flood insurance to kick in. Thankfully, she and Tom Pacho aren’t flooded.
“We feel lucky. We feel very fortunate,” said Pacho.
Unlike Dan Crowley, who will have to make repairs to his flooded home.
“I have not seen a house that I’ve lived in with that kind of water damage,” said Crowley.
Water is a few feet deep in his house.
“It’s a very special place to us. I’ve watched my kids grow up, my nieces and nephews grow up here,” said Crowley.
Now, emergency crews have another battle: people sightseeing and driving on closed roads.
“The biggest thing for us is people driving around the barricades. It usually only takes a foot or so to sweep away a vehicle if it’s moving water,” said Steve Boldway with Texas Task Force One.
