KVUE names Mike Redding as news director

Mike Redding will join KVUE-TV in Austin, Texas as news director on Aug. 16, 2016. Redding joins KVUE after serving three years as news director of two of TEGNA's NBC stations: WCSH in Portland, Maine and WLBZ in Bangor, Maine.

Mike Redding will join KVUE-TV in Austin, Texas as news director on Aug. 16, 2016. Redding joins KVUE after serving three years as news director of two of TEGNA’s NBC stations: WCSH in Portland, Maine and WLBZ in Bangor, Maine.

“Mike is a gifted storyteller and leader who has been awarded some of the highest honors in the field of journalism,” said Kristie Gonzales, president and general manager of KVUE. “He has the vision and experience to lead KVUE news into future successes and grow our digital properties.”

Before Redding became news director at WCSH and WLBZ, he was the executive producer at WFMY-TV in Greensboro, North Carolina. He has also served as managing editor at WDBJ-TV in Roanoke, Virginia and as a communications coach for five television stations and one newspaper.

Redding brings a broad background to KVUE with experience at every key media position. At varying points in his career, Redding has produced newscasts, worked the assignment desk, covered news as a general assignment reporter for more than a decade and hosted “Carolina Traveler,” a weekly news magazine show.

He is a highly sought-after storytelling coach and mentor.

As a reporter, Redding has been recognized throughout his career with 28 Emmys, two National Edward R. Murrow Awards, 11 Regional Murrows, and 11 Associated Press awards. He is a graduate of the E. W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. In his free time, you’ll find him with his wife Anna and their two young boys, Crowley and Quinn, exploring the outdoors or playing music together.
