Evacuations lifted as crews repair gas leak in Kyle

Purple Martin Avenue between Northern Flicker Street and Song Sparrow Cove has reopened.

AUSTIN, Texas — Evacuations have been lifted for three homes as crews work to fix a gas leak in Kyle on Wednesday afternoon.

Around 2:15 p.m., the City of Kyle said emergency crews were responding to the leak in the 500 block of Purple Martin Ave. CenterPoint was on the scene repairing the leak.

Three homes were evacuated “out of an abundance of caution,” the city said.

Emergency crews cleared the scene around 4:25 p.m. Evacuations have been lifted and Purple Martin Avenue between Northern Flicker Street and Song Sparrow Cove has reopened.

CenterPoint will remain on the scene to finish repairs. Residents may not have gas service until repairs are complete.

The City of Kyle said a strong smell of gas was noticeable in the area and may persist until the issue is resolved.

It’s not known what caused the gas leak at this time.
